Product details.
Urea (Berthelot) is a reagent kit for the quantitative estimation of urea and BUN in serum or plasma. Urease breaks urea down into ammonia and carbon dioxide; in alkaline medium the ammonia reacts with hypochlorite and salicylate, catalysed by nitroprusside, to form a dicarboxyindophenol measured at 578 nm. Manufactured at Reckon’s Vadodara facility under ISO 13485:2016 quality management, and released against reference standards before dispatch.

Procedure at a glance5 steps
- Dissolve the enzyme vial in deionised water (10 ml or 60 ml) and wait 10 minutes.
- Pipette 1.0 ml of working enzyme reagent into the blank, standard and test tubes with 0.01 ml of distilled water, standard and sample respectively.
- Mix and incubate for 10 minutes at room temperature (25 to 30 °C), or 5 minutes at 37 °C.
- Add 1.0 ml of colour developing reagent, mix, incubate again for the same time, and read the test and standard against the reagent blank at 578 nm.
- Urea (mg/dl) = absorbance of test ÷ absorbance of standard × 40; BUN (mg/dl) = 0.467 × urea.
