Product details.

UIBC (Ferrozine) is a reagent kit for the quantitative estimation of unsaturated and total iron-binding capacity (UIBC and TIBC) in serum or plasma. A known excess of ferrous iron saturates transferrin in alkaline medium, ferrozine forms a purple complex with the iron left unbound, measured at 560 nm, and the difference from the excess added is the UIBC. Manufactured at Reckon’s Vadodara facility under ISO 13485:2016 quality management, and released against reference standards before dispatch.

Procedure at a glance5 steps
  1. Dissolve 1 vial of 3 UIBC (enhancer) in 1 bottle of 1 UIBC (buffer) and wait 15 minutes.
  2. Pipette 1.0 ml of working reagent into four tubes: blank (0.4 ml of water), standard (0.2 ml of standard + 0.2 ml of water), and sample blank and test (0.2 ml of sample + 0.2 ml of standard each).
  3. Add 0.05 ml of 2 UIBC (colour reagent) to the blank, standard and test, not to the sample blank.
  4. Stand for 10 minutes at 37 °C and read against the reagent blank at 560 nm.
  5. Excess iron (µmol/L) = (test − sample blank) ÷ standard × 80; UIBC = 80 − excess iron; TIBC = serum iron + UIBC.
