Product details.

Bicarbonate (PEPC) is a reagent for the in vitro quantitative determination of total CO2 in human serum or plasma. Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase uses the sample's bicarbonate to form oxaloacetate, which malate dehydrogenase reduces while oxidising NADH; the fall in absorbance at 380 nm is proportional to the bicarbonate present. Manufactured at Reckon’s Vadodara facility under ISO 13485:2016 quality management, and released against reference standards before dispatch.

The specifications and steps on this page are from the datasheet, last updated 12-2023. The datasheet governs: read it before use, or ask us.

Procedure at a glance5 steps
  1. Reconstitute each reagent vial with the volume of buffer stated on its label, without shaking.
  2. Pipette 1.0 ml of working reagent into the blank, standard and test tubes; add 0.01 ml of distilled water, standard and sample respectively.
  3. Stopper, mix well and stand for 5 minutes at 37 °C.
  4. Read the blank, standard and test against distilled water at 380 nm.
  5. Bicarbonate (mmol/L) = (blank − sample) ÷ (blank − standard) × 25.
