Product details.

Total Protein (Biuret) is a reagent kit for the quantitative estimation of total protein in serum or plasma. In an alkaline medium, protein reacts with the copper in the biuret reagent to form a blue-violet complex, read at 540 nm in proportion to protein concentration. Manufactured at Reckon’s Vadodara facility under ISO 13485:2016 quality management, and released against reference standards before dispatch.

The specifications and steps on this page are from the datasheet, last updated 04-2023. The datasheet governs: read it before use, or ask us.

Linearity
Up to 10 g/dl; dilute higher samples with 0.9% saline
Interference
None from moderate hemoglobin, bilirubin, salicylates and lipids; severely lipemic or icteric samples need a sample blank
Procedure at a glance4 steps
  1. Pipette 2.5 ml of reagent into the blank, standard and test tubes; add 0.05 ml of distilled water, standard and sample respectively (or 1.0 ml and 0.02 ml in the 1 ml procedure).
  2. Mix and stand for 10 minutes at room temperature.
  3. Read the test and the standard against the reagent blank at 540 nm.
  4. Total protein (g/dl) = absorbance of test ÷ absorbance of standard × 5; albumin/globulin ratio = albumin ÷ (total protein − albumin).
