The Widal Slide Test (8 antigen, +ve and −ve control) is a slide and tube agglutination kit for detecting antibodies to Salmonella antigens in serum, with S. typhi O and H and S. paratyphi AO, BO, CO, AH, BH and CH suspensions. It screens on the slide and titrates on the slide or in tubes. Manufactured at Reckon’s Vadodara facility under ISO 13485:2016 quality management, and released against reference standards before dispatch.

Procedure at a glance5 steps

Bring all reagents to room temperature and shake each antigen vial well.
Place 1 drop of positive control in one circle, and 1 drop of serum and of saline in the circles needed.
Add 1 drop of the matching Widal antigen to each circle, mix with separate sticks, and rock the slide for 1 minute.
If the control and the serum agglutinate, titrate: 0.08, 0.04, 0.02, 0.01 and 0.005 ml of serum, each with 1 drop of antigen, give titres of 1:20 to 1:320.
In tubes, dilute the serum 1:20 to 1:1280 in saline, add 1 drop of antigen, incubate at 37 °C for 16 to 20 hours, and read the highest dilution with visible agglutination.
